
In Durban, South Africa on the 25th the draw for each continent’s 2010 World Cup qualifying groups was held, and the groups for the Asian 3rd Round matches were decided.
On the 24th there were 9 matches played in Round 33 of the J-League.
The final round of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Men’s Asian Qualifying matches were played throughout Asia on the 21st, and by winning their respective groups, Korea Rep and Japan have clinched qualification for the Olympics.
Nine matches were played on the 18th Round 32 of the J-League. Leaders, Urawa Reds played 4th place Shimizu S-Pulse. It was a tough match in which ace striker WASHINGTON Stecanela Carqueira was sent off and Japan national team mid-fielder SUZUKI Keita was forced off with injury but it came down to goalkeeper TSUZUKI Ryota’s performance to secure a 0-0 draw. Thus earning them a valuable point.
Five matches were played in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Men’s Asia Regional Final Qualifiers on the 17th throughout Asia. The top team in each group will qualify for the Beijing tournament. After five matches (with one more game remaining) Korea Rep is leading Group B and Japan is leading Group C.
There were 7 matches played in the final round of the CSL (China Super League) on November 14th.
On the morning of the 16th, Japanese national team coach, Ivica OSIM, was admitted to a hospital in Chiba Prefecture with acute brain complications.
5 matches were played between November 3rd and 13th in the 2007/08 HKL (Hong Kong First Division Football League).
The second leg of the AFC Champions League (ACL) finals were played between Urawa Reds (Japan) and Sepahan (Iran) on the 14th at Saitama Stadium 2002 (Japan).
The second match of the championship that decides the winner of the Korean K-League was played on the 11th. POHANG STEELERS forward SCHWENCK’s decisive goal meant a 1-0 victory over SEONGNAM ILHWA CHUNMA. Following POHANG’s first leg 3-1 win (on the 4th) this meant they were crowned K-League champions for the first time in 15 years, since 1992.
On October 10th seven matches were played in Round 29 of the CSL (China Super League).
Round 31 of the J-League was played on the 10th and 11th, 2nd place Gamba Osaka and 3rd place Kashima Antlers are both united in their hope for a come from behind title victory.
Hong Kong-China played Turkmenistan on the 10th in the first leg of their 2010 FIFA World Cup Asian regional 2nd round qualifying match. Playing at home in Hong Kong stadium, neither team was able to land a decisive blow and it ended as a 0-0 draw.
The AFC U-16 Championship 2008 (host yet to be confirmed) qualification was held from October 1st to November 7th with AFC members China, Japan, DPR Korea and Korea Rep all finishing within the top 2 of their respective groups (top 1 in Korea Rep’s Group H) and therefore assuring their positions at the main tournament.
The first leg of the AFC Champions League (ACL) finals between Sepahan (Iran) and Urawa Reds (Japan) was played on the 7th at Isfehan (Iran)’s Foulad Shahr Stadium.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Awards 2007 were held in Kuala Lumpur on the 6th with DPR Korea’s captain, RI Kum Suk selected as the women’s player of the year.
The final of the J-League Yamazaki Cup, competed for by all 18 J-League teams, was played on November 3rd at the National Stadium.
The CSL (China Super League) kicked off again on October 31st after a one month break following the Chinese national team’s participation in the FIFA world cup Asian qualifying matches.
October 28th, the ex-French women’s national coach, Elizabeth Loisel, was appointed as the new Chinese national women’s team coach.
