On the 28th the Hong Kong-China team played their second AFC Asian Cup Group A qualifier versus Yemen losing 0-1.

DPR Korea finish up in last place: King’s Cup

DPR Korea participated in the King’s Cup held on January 21st and 23rd in Phuket, Thailand.

CHO Chung Yun is appointed as new chairman of the Korea Rep. Football Association

On the 22nd the Korea Rep. Football Association held a General Committee Meeting in Seoul and current deputy chairman CHO Chung Yun was selected as the new chairman. The appointment is for 4 years.

FW CHO Jae Jin, DF MATO and other K-Leaguers involved in a mass transfer to the J-League

The start of the 2009 season will see a movement whereby K-League players, who previously had very few players in Asia, transferred to the J-League (where the rule of a 3 foreign player maximum now includes 1 player from AFC member and quasi-member countries).

Former Korea Rep. FW SEOL Ki Hyeon transfers to the Saudi Arabian league

Former Korea Rep. national team FW SEOL Ki Hyeon will move from English Premier League side FULHAM to AL HILAL (Saudi Arabia) who have qualified to play in the AFC Champions League 2009.

China PR national team DF LI Weifeng transfers to K-League champions

On the 22nd 2008 K-League champions SUWON SAMSUNG BLUEWINGS announced they have signed China PR DF LI Weifeng. The contract period is 2 years. LI has captained China PR on many occasions including at the East Asian Football Federation Championships 2008 and will become the first ever Chinese player to play in the K-League.

Hong Kong-China are unable to come back: AFC Asian Cup Qualifier

On the 22nd the Hong Kong-China national team played a 2009 Asian Cup Qualifier against fellow Group A members Bahrain in Hong Kong and lost 1-3. Hong Kong-China’s next match will be away to Yemen on the 28th.

The China PR national team score a 6 goal drubbing: AFC Asian Cup Qualifier

On the 21st the China PR national team played at home to Vietnam in their Group D AFC Asian |Cup Qualifier in Hangzhou with FW GAO Lin’s hat trick helping them to a 6-1 victory.

The Japan national team start 2009 with a win: AFC Asian Cup Preliminary

On the 20th the Japan national team played their first 2009 AFC Asian Cup Preliminary Group A match at home to Yemen in Matsumoto, with FW TANAKA Tatsuya’s deciding goal giving them a 2-1 victory.

On the 14th Hong Kong-China welcomed 2008 AFC Challenge Cup winners India for an international friendly match, which they won 2-1.

From the 10th till the 14th a four nation invitational friendly tournament was held in China PR.

On the 12th the AFC Cup 2009 grouping draw was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

On the 9th the China PR national team played an international friendly versus Iran in Tehran, Iran and lost 1-3.

On January 7th, the draw for the AFC Champions League 2009 groupings was held in UAE, Dubai.

Japan national team FW OKUBO is transferred to Vfl Wolfsburg

On January 5th a press conference was held to welcome Japan national team FW OKUBO Yoshito to his new German Bundesliga 1st division club, Vfl Wolfsburg from Vissel Kobe. OKUBO’s shirt number will be 8 and his contract will be for 11 months until June 30th. OKUBO said that he “hopes to live up to the club’s expectations”.

Gamba Osaka win for the first time in 18 years: All-Japan Emperors Cup Championship

The final of the 88th All-Japan Emperors Cup Football Championship was held on January 1st in Tokyo’s national stadium with 2008 AFC Champions League winners Gamba Osaka meeting Kashiwa Reysol.
