On August 16th a press conference regarding the 2008 East Asian Football Federation Tournament Finals / 2008 East Asian Football Federation Women’s Tournament Finals, to be held during February 2008, took place at the site of the tournament, Chongqing, China. A summary of each of the tournaments and their schedules was announced at the press conference
China, Japan, and Korea Rep. will all attend the 2008 East Asian Football Federation Tournament Finals, as well as DPR Korea who won the qualifying tournament. The champions will receive 500,000 US dollars, 2nd place 300,000 US, 3rd place 200,000 US and 4th place 150,000 US.
China, Japan and DPR Korea will take part in the 2008 East Asian Football Federation Women’s Tournament Finals, as well as qualifying tournament winners, Korea Rep.. Winners of the women’s tournament receive 50,000 US dollars, 2nd place 30,000 US, 3rd place 20,000 US and 4th place 15,000 US.
In both the men’s and women’s tournaments each team will play 3 matches of 90 minutes (no extra time or penalties) in a round robin league where the standings are decided by points (if two teams are on the same points then it is decided by 1. goal difference 2. most goals scored 3. the direct result of the team’s match).

The press conference was attended by East Asian Football Federation chairman, Xie Yalong, EAFF secretary general, Takeo Okada, and Chongqing city’s deputy secretary general, Zhang Ming Shu, as well as representatives from the Chinese, Japanese and South Korean teams. To start with EAFF Chairman, Xie Yalong, declared Chongqing to be the site of the 2008 East Asian Football Federation Tournament Finals and 2008 East Asian Football Federation Women’s Tournament Finals to be held in February 2008.

“At present, preparations are starting to pick up leading towards the tournament. Thanks to support from related parties the television broadcasts are a great chance for this tournament and Asian football in general to be shown to the world. I hope that this tournament will be the greatest spectacle of all the Asian football tournaments to date.”

Takeo Okada: East Asian Football Federation secretary general
“The decision to hold this tournament in Chongqing was an excellent one, and preparations are going smoothly. We have held numerous meetings related to this tournament so that you will all be satisfied with the quality of the stadiums and security. I believe we will witness some glorious football at these East Asian Football Federation Tournament Finals.”

Zhang Ming Shu: Chongqing city deputy secretary general
“The Chongqing organizing committee is in charge of arranging this tournament. We are working with all our might to make the necessary arrangements for this tournament.”

“We see the EAFF Tournament Finals as a chance to play high quality opponents such as Japan, South Korea and DPR Korea and we are hoping to learn from our experiences here.”
