Youthful Korea Rep. beat Chinese Taipei 6-0 to dominate and win the competition: East Asian Women’s Football Championships 2010 Semi-final Competition Final Day

With 4 consecutive wins, Korea Rep. has clinched their place at the East Asian Women’s Football Championships 2010 Finals Competition to be held in Japan in February 2010. On the final day of the Semi-final Competition in Tainan, Taiwan leaders Korea Rep., with 3 wins, clashed with 2nd place Chinese Taipei, also with 3 wins. Korea Rep. won 6-0 to claim the title having won every match and qualify for the finals competition.

The winner of this match would be champions. Chinese Taipei were attempting to come from behind to win and they pressed Korea Rep. in an attempt to stop their attack. At the same time home town heroes’ TAN Wen Lin and TSENG Shu O ability on the break and LIN Man Ting passing ability were exploited to try and find holes in the Korea Rep. defense. But FW LIN Yu Hui, who had displayed great attacking prowess up till now, was harshly checked by Korea Rep. DF HWANG Bo Ram as Chinese Taipei lost their cool, often giving away the ball, in the face of a Korea Rep. defense which pushed all the way from the front line and into mid-field.

In the 11th minute Korea Rep. DF LEE Jin Hwa passed down the right side to FW JEON Ga Eul who beat the GK to score the opening goal. It was from then on that Chinese Taipei’s attacks began falling apart due to the rough defense. MF CHO So Hyun’s left sided cross was headed well by FW YOO Young A as they peppered the home goal. However in the 19th minute MF TAN Wen Lin chipped the ball in between the GK and the defensive line who were running back. Using her amazing speed to nip in behind the defense, TSENG Shu O hit a crisp lob. However the best chance of the match for Chinese Taiwan bounced once and was diverted from the target due to a super save from GK KIM Jung Mi.

After this Korea Rep. unleashed wave after wave of great attacks and in the 28th minute LEE Jin Hwa’s pass from the right into the box was struck on the bounce by YOO Young A with her right foot to make it 2-0. In the 40th minute a rebound from a right corner kick was converted excellently by KWON Hah Nul to make it 4-0.
In the second half Chinese Taipei sought to get one back through TSAI Hsin Yun’s long range shot amongst other plays but their endurance was running out and they couldn't link up well. Then a PK in the 64th minute. Korea Rep. MF KIM Soo Yun converted that and then DF LIN Chiung Ying received her second warning and was sent off. Against opponent’s who were desperately trying to hold them off, Korea Rep. substitute FW JI So Yun scored an 80th minute PK. Then in the 87th minute JI So Yun broke down the left before threading a through ball to JEON Ga Eul to make it 41 goals in the tournament.
Chinese Taipei head coach CHOU Tai Ying said “Korea Rep. are much stronger than even a few years ago. I’m a little frustrated we couldn't play better.” Competition MVP MF CHO So Hyun, who moved well from left to right, was happy with the title, saying” I’m very happy we were able to win. It’s a result of a lot of hard work.” They were crowned number 1 in the world when they won the Universiade in July. The current Korea Rep. team is built around 11 young players from that side and their next challenge will be to play the top level teams: Japan, China and DPR Korea in Japan next year in February.
