The Japan national team will play Uruguay in an international friendly in August
On the 11th the Japan Football Association announced that the Japan national team will play South American legends Uruguay on August 20th in Sapporo as part of the Kirin Challenge Cup 2008. This is another part of the team’s preparation for the final regional qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The head coach OKADA Takeshi said at the press conference “Our first world cup regional qualifying match is away at Bahrain and due to scheduling the only time available for a training match before then will be this Kirin Challenge Cup game against Uruguay. Its an important match since its our first and last warm up match before the qualifiers, so we wanted to play tough opponents. We wanted to play an individually skillful team, one with a good defense and one that was good at counter attacking.”
