In the midst of turbulence, CHANGCHUN YATAI make a break for the lead: CSL round 24
In round 24 of the CSL (China Football Association Super League), played between September 21st and 23rd, a battle between six teams is unfolding for the championship. Two of those six teams, CHANGCHUN YATAI and BEIJING GUOAN won but four teams lost or drew meaning turbulence in the standings at the top of the league.
In the matches on the 21st, HUBEI WUHAN’s substitute Di Yo’s goal meant a 1-0 win over DALIAN SHIDE. CHANGCHUN YATAI played away at TIANJIN TEDA and won 1-0 thanks to Wang Dong’s winning goal from the penalty spot. They move into sole lead at the top of the league. The losses for DALIAN SHIDE and TIANJIN TEDA mean the chance of them being crowned champions has decreased significantly.
On the 22nd, title holders SHANDONG LUNENG played away at low ranked BAORONG CHANBA and could only manage a 0-0 draw meaning they drop to an disappointing 3rd place. XIAMEN scraped a 1-1 draw with SHENZHEN thanks to an 87th minute goal. This results means that they haven’t gotten out of the relegation battle just yet. SHANGHAI SHENHUA played at home to LIAONING and that was also a 1-1 draw, putting them in 4th place. The thread connecting them to the championship title has become a lot thinner.
On the 23rd, BEIJING GUOAN forward Walter Martinez’s two goals and Tao Wei’s one goal meant a convincing 3-0 win over QINGDAO ZHONGNENG. This win gives them 44 points and moves them up to 2nd in the league standings. GREENTOWN, who are involved in the relegation battle, played away at HENAN CONSTRUCTION. They downed HENAN 1－0 and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. On the other hand, HENAN CONSTRUCTION are now in danger of the drop.
