DPR Korea has rarely been seen on the international scene since the mid-1990s, and they are not entered in the on-going 2007 Asia Cup preliminaries. Disappointed football fans throughout Asia and around the world miss seeing DPR Korea's national team and clubs. Regardless of the circumstances, football is considered a national sport and its popularity has never waned. It is not uncommon to see people of all ages and gender playing football in an open space in the community. Tens of thousand of supporters come to the stadium for the matches of the 4・25 Football Club, the strongest club from which many national team members are selected, and the atmosphere among the spectators is truly typical of any exciting football match. League matches are organized throughout the country at different levels, and a system of scouting talented players and placing them immediately in the higher category is in order. DPR Korea is truly a leading football nation, and it is no wonder that some refer to it as the "Brazil of East Asia."
