Korea Republic’s women’s U-17 national team ended its Asian Cup campaign in the quarterfinals. At the same time, it also failed to secure a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, for which spots were given to the top four teams.

The 2026 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup, held in Suzhou, China, from May 1 to 17, featured a total of 12 nations, including Korea Republic. Korea Republic, DPR Korea, Japan, and China, which represented Asia at last year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, qualified automatically for the finals, while the other eight teams came through the qualifiers. With FIFA deciding to hold the men’s and women’s U-17 World Cups every year starting in 2025, the U-17 Asian Cup, which also serves as qualification for the U-17 World Cup, will now be held annually as well.

In this year’s tournament, the 12 teams were split into three groups of four for the group stage. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, advanced to the quarterfinal knockout stage to compete for the title. The top four teams qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Morocco this October. .....
